Ethical Issues in the Use of Large Language Models in Research – Dr. Ravi Iyer
Since their introduction in 2022 by OpenAI, large language models (ChatGPT) have revolutionised the ways in which we engage with research and indeed, everyday life! In this seminar Dr. Iyer takes you through a brief history and architecture of large language models (LLMs) and the ethical issues involved in using LLMs for research purposes.
Dr. Ravi Iyer is a senior research fellow within the Centre for Mental Health at Swinburne University. Dr. Iyer is the lead biostatistician for the Mental Health General Clinical Trials Network (MAGNET) of Australia. He is an Academic Member of Swinburne University HREC and is a psychotherapist specialising in complex trauma. Dr. Iyer’s research interests lie in advanced machine learning applications that leverage speech textual and sound wave data, innovative clinical trial designs, and research ethics.
