Distinguished Professor Michael Berk AO recognised in King’s Birthday Honours

MAGNET is delighted to congratulate our Lead Chief Investigator, Distinguished Professor Michael Berk AO, on being appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to epidemiology, preventative medicine, mental health, and tertiary education.

This prestigious honour recognises Professor Berk’s outstanding contribution to advancing mental health research and improving outcomes for people living with complex mental health conditions.

A global leader in mood disorder research, Professor Berk is internationally recognised for his pioneering work in drug repurposing, translational research, and developing new approaches to the prevention and treatment of mental illness.

As MAGNET’s Lead Chief Investigator, Professor Berk has been instrumental in bringing together researchers, clinicians, health professionals, industry partners, and people with lived experience to drive collaboration and accelerate progress in mental health clinical trials.

Professor Berk is currently an NHMRC L3 Research Fellow, Alfred Deakin Chair of Psychiatry at Deakin University and Barwon Health, and Director of the Deakin Institute for Mental and Physical Health and Clinical Translation.
